What is Solar Water Pump and how does it work

In today’s time, solar energy is being used extensively because there is a high demand for lighting in every household. Everyone is using solar panels to fulfill their lighting needs. Solar panels are an excellent option as they can provide electricity to your home without additional expenses and offer you green energy.

Solar energy is considered a powerhouse in today’s era, and new technologies are being used to harness the power of sunlight. Nowadays, you can find everything in the market that operates on solar power or is equipped with solar charging capabilities.

For instance, as you may know, buses and cars are also utilizing solar technology. Additionally, in the field of agriculture, solar technology has brought about significant changes. One such innovation is the Solar Water Pump, which helps with irrigation even during droughts.

Irrigation is crucial in agricultural areas because there is no guarantee of when electricity will be available. Therefore, many people are becoming aware of solar technology, and a large number of individuals are turning towards solar solutions.

Solar Water Pump technology is cost-effective and sustainable. It is primarily used for submersible tube well operations in fields and for various applications such as fountains, swimming pool pumps, and mono-block home pumps.

How Solar Water Pump Works

The primary function of any water pump is to transport water from one location to another. Similarly, the Solar Water Pump works on the same principle, but it relies on sunlight to operate.

Solar Water Pumps are commonly used on a larger scale in agricultural fields, where they play a crucial role in irrigation. Additionally, these pumps can be used for various applications such as fountain pumps, pool pumps, circulation pumps in ponds, livestock watering, irrigation pumps, home pumps, gardening, and farming.

Types of Solar Water Pump

Indeed, Solar Water Pumps can come in various types, considering factors like the source of power (AC or DC), size, and power consumption. However, primarily, there are two main types of Solar Water Pumps:

1. Solar Submersible Pump

The Solar Submersible Pump is most commonly used in India. This submersible pump remains submerged in the ground and is used to lift water to the surface. The Solar Submersible Pump is primarily used to extract water from deep sources where the water depth exceeds 40 feet.

2. Solar Surface Pump

The Solar Surface Pump is used when you need to lift water from the ground level or send it in various directions. It is typically used when the water depth is less than 30 feet.

Components of Solar Water Pump

There are three main components of a Solar Water Pump, which I will explain:

1. Solar Panel

You are probably familiar with what a solar panel is and how it works. When sunlight hits the solar panel, it generates electricity. This electricity is then transmitted to the motor through wires, which powers the pump. So, the solar panel’s role is to generate electricity.

2. Motor Pump

A motor pump is a device that pumps water from one place to another. It’s a common sight in most households, as its job is to draw water from one source and deliver it to another.

3. Controller

Controlling any device is essential because you never know when a device might malfunction or when you need to turn it on or off. In the case of a Solar Water Pump system, a controller is crucial. It is placed between the solar panel and the motor pump.

The controller allows you to control when the motor pump should be turned on or off. Additionally, it regulates the electricity flow from the solar panel to ensure that your water pump system functions correctly. If you have a solar system at home, you may be familiar with a solar charge controller. If not, don’t worry; I can explain it to you.

The controller is placed between the solar panel and the motor pump. It allows you to control when the motor pump should be turned on or off. Additionally, it regulates the electricity flow from the solar panel to ensure that your water pump system functions correctly. The controller is somewhat like an inverter in this regard.

Benefits of Solar Water Pump

1. Low Maintenance

You may already know that there is no need for any kind of maintenance in solar systems. All you need to do is install the solar system correctly once, and afterward, you only need to ensure that it remains free of dust and dirt.

There is no requirement for any type of maintenance for solar water pump systems as well. You just need to ensure that there is no shade from buildings or trees over the solar panels, and that no dust or dirt accumulates on them. Additionally, make sure that no animals, birds, or humans can cause harm to the solar panels. In other words, you need to protect them from any physical damage, but there is no other maintenance needed for solar pump systems.

2. Durable

Solar water pumps are extremely durable. The main components of a solar water pump system are the solar panels and the water pump itself. If there is any issue with the solar panels, you can replace them, and similarly, if there is a problem with the water pump, you can replace it as well. So, it is highly durable. As long as you install it correctly and operate it according to your needs, it will work properly without any issues.

3. Noise-free

There is no noise whatsoever in a solar water pump system. You may have seen large tube wells or water pumps in fields that make noise when they operate. However, solar water pump systems are completely noise-free.

4. High Efficiency

Solar water pump systems come with high efficiency. You may have observed that many times in fields where submersible tube wells are installed, they can provide water properly as long as the voltage is right.

However, when the voltage drops, these tube wells start providing less water, and sometimes, when the voltage drops significantly, they may even stop working. But this is not the case with solar water pump systems

. In these systems, solar panels adjust the amount of light they convert into electricity based on the available sunlight. So, even if there is less sunlight, the solar water pump system will continue to function efficiently.

To control this, a controller is installed between the solar panel and the motor pump, ensuring that the motor receives the required power for smooth operation and preventing any damage due to low voltage.

5. Safe

In terms of safety, solar submersible water pump systems are excellent. These systems use DC components, so there is no risk of electric shock. They are also cost-effective as you don’t need to lay transmission lines, saving you money on both electricity bills and transmission line installation costs.

For example, if you were thinking of installing a submersible tube well and opted for a solar system instead of laying transmission lines, you would save a significant amount of money. Additionally, you wouldn’t have to pay electricity bills, and the system would be completely safe because it operates on DC power.
