Off Grid Solar System: How Does It Work

Off Grid Solar System: How Does It Work

In the market, you can find three types of solar systems: On Grid, Off Grid, and Hybrid solar systems. All three systems work in different ways. Today, we will explain how Off Grid solar system works.

Off Grid solar system uses various components that you should be aware of to understand how it works. First, let’s talk about the components used in the Off Grid solar system.

Off Grid Solar System: How Does It Work

Working: The operation of Off Grid solar system is quite simple. In this system, we first receive DC supply from solar panels. This DC supply is connected to the solar inverter and solar charge controller, which charges your battery.

After storing DC supply in the battery, the solar inverter converts this DC supply into AC, allowing your household appliances to function. If your home has a high load and the solar panels are generating less electricity, the solar inverter will draw power from the grid to power your loads. Now, let’s discuss the components used in the Off Grid solar system.

1. Solar Panel

Solar panels are a crucial part of the entire solar system because they convert sunlight into electricity. The electricity generated by solar panels is Direct Current (DC), which can be used to charge the battery. The more solar panels you install, the more electricity you will receive from the solar panels.

Solar Panel Prices:
  • 1 kW Polycrystalline Solar Panel: Rs. 28,000*
  • 1 kW Monocrystalline Solar Panel: Rs. 30,000*
  • 1 kW Half-Cut Monocrystalline Solar Panel: Rs. 33,000*
  • 1 kW Bifacial Solar Panel: Rs. 38,000*

2. Solar Inverter

The solar inverter is the second most important component of the solar system. It converts the DC supply from solar panels into AC, enabling your household appliances to function. Solar inverters also come with solar charge controllers, which control the DC supply from solar panels and charge your solar battery. The larger the solar inverter, the more appliances you can run on it.

3. Solar Battery

The third essential component of the Off Grid solar system is the solar battery. Solar batteries are used to store electricity, allowing you to power your appliances even during the night. The more batteries you install, the longer your appliances can run.

4. Safety Devices

To ensure the safety of the entire solar system and your household appliances, various safety devices are used. Some of these devices include ACDB, DCDB, Earthing Kit, and Lightning Arrestor.

The cost of the Off Grid solar system depends on various factors such as the inverter brand, inverter capacity, battery brand, solar panel technology, and solar panel brand. Having this information will help you determine the cost of the Off Grid solar system accurately. Below is an estimated list of Off Grid solar system prices based on various factors.

Off Grid solar system price in india

How to Create an Off Grid Solar System with a Normal Inverter

If you want to set up an Off Grid solar system with a normal inverter, you will need a solar charge controller and solar panels. With the help of a solar charge controller, you can connect solar panels to the battery, as shown in the diagram below.

First, connect the battery’s terminals to the solar charge controller. Then, establish connections between the solar charge controller and the solar panels. In this solar system, only your battery can be charged from the solar panels. Plus, the cost of setting up this system is relatively low.

You can get a Smarten 12V/24V-50a-MPPT solar charge controller for approximately ₹4500. Additionally, you can find 1 kW solar panels for at least ₹25000. Besides, there will be an extra expense of approximately ₹5000 to ₹6000 for the solar stand and wires. So, your total cost will be around ₹35000 to install 1 kW panels on your two-battery solar inverter.

Now, you have a good understanding of how the Off Grid solar system works and how much it can cost to install it. If you still have any questions, feel free to ask by commenting below.
